Etizolam, aka Etizest or Etilamm, is a thienodiazepine class psychoactive drug used for treating anxiety, depression, panic attacks, and insomnia. It’s similar to the benzodiazepine analog, like Valium or diazepam, in that it lowers the central nervous system. Also, testing has illustrated it to be effective as a muscle relaxer, sedative, anti-anxiety medicine, sleep aid, and anti-convulsion medicine.
According to the World Health Organization, the potency of Etizolam is six to 10 times higher than diazepam for most of its effects. It’s used in some foreign countries, such as Italy, India, and Japan. And they are known under other names, such as Depas, Pasaden, Etilaam, Etizest, Sedekopan, and Etizola. This drug is not allowed in the UK. It can be ordered in the US, but it has yet to be FDA approved. This means it won’t be sold in US pharmacies, and a doctor in the US can’t prescribe it. So, other channels, such as ordering online, must be used to retrieve Etizolam.
When it’s prescribed by a physician which, in turn, will be retrieved from a pharmacy (this will be in other countries that approve it), this drug will be of very high purity, and it will be in predictable, consumed doses. On the other hand, if this drug is retrieved illegally, the purity level, the ingredients, and the effect of this drug can’t be determined. Also, when used as a medicine, they are normally sold as tablets. They are also sold as either tablets or pellets when they are at a legally high dosage.
Other Test Results
In a recent study that was placebo-controlled and double-blinded, 36 patients diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder with various depressive symptoms were assessed for the tolerability and efficacy of two unitary dosages of Etizolam. After going through a washed out period of placebo for a week, random patients were assigned to take one tablet two times a day of .25 mg or .50 mg of Etizolam or placebo for five weeks. Assessments were made on day 21 and 35 of the patients’ symptoms and condition using a four psychometric tests’ battery, including the Covi scale for anxiety, the Hamilton rating scales for depression and for anxiety, and the Raskin scale for depression. Ten patients did not finish the study because eight of them didn’t have enough response even though their dosage increased to one tablet for three times a day. Four of these patients were on placebo, one was on .50 mg of Etizolam, and three of them were on .25 mg of Etizolam. The other two patients who took .50 mg of Etizolam had side effects. For the remaining 26 patients, they were on .50 mg of Etizolam, and significant improvements were made in regards to depressive and anxiety symptoms. This result was significantly better than the .25 dosage or placebo regimen. Also, there were only a few side effects reported that were mild to moderate which was mainly daytime drowsiness. Otherwise, the administering of the drug was well tolerated.
What are the Side Effects of Etizolam?
Etizolam usually has mild to moderate side effects. These side effects include the following:
- It causes sleepiness.
- It may cause short-term memory loss.
- It may cause decreased/shallow breathing.
- It can cause forgetfulness and over sleeping when taking big doses.
As mentioned before, mild to moderate side effects normally occur with this drug. But there are times when taking Etizolam can lead to dangerous side effects. For example, this drug can be highly addictive. Withdrawal symptoms, such as nausea, confusion, headaches, and anxiety, may occur. Discontinuing the drug suddenly after taking big doses can cause fits and panic attacks. And it can be fatal with sudden discontinuation after administering the drug regularly for a prolonged period of time. So, in this case, weaning off the Etizolam gradually by reducing the amount daily for a prolonged period is required. And according to the Journal of American Medical Association, 6,500 deaths in 2010 were associated with benzodiazepines. This is because these fatal overdoses are due to the central nervous system being suppressed. Also, a loss of coordination can occur which can be fatal especially when mixed with other drugs that cause the nervous system to slow down, like alcohol. Other than that, another terrible side effect, even though it’s not deadly, is skin lesions. Skin lessions are reported to occur in rare cases due to taking Etizolam.
What are the Risks Associated with Improper Administering?
Some have taken these tranquilizers by melting or crushing the tablets, and taking these drugs in a melted or crushed manner has proven to be very dangerous and sometimes even deadly. The chalky form caused by the crushing of the tablets causes collapsed veins which can cause infections and abscesses. The gel form caused from the melting of this drug can solidify in the blood vessels. And thus, reactions, such gangrene and lost of limbs, can occur. Additionally, blood borne viruses, such as hepatitis C, hepatitis B, and HIV, are most likely to spread when sharing injectable tools, like syringes.
There have recently been a few reports of people taking this drug anally or through snorting. Hence, there is no report concerning the side effects of administering this drug in any one of these formats. However, it’s popularly known that snorting drugs will usually rush to the brain, and that is not a good thing. Other than that, if there is no further report on the effects from using any of these administering methods, it’s best not to take this drug in those fashions to be on a safe side.
How to get them in the US?
As mentioned above, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not approved Etizolam in the US, and that is why it can’t be prescribed by a physician or bought at a US pharmacy. So, the only way US consumers can buy these drugs is by ordering them online.
Before choosing just any random vendor online among the sea of vendors displayed in the search engines, it’s vital to research which ones are trustworthy and reliable. This can be done by checking on different forums and consumer sites to see the testimonials of customers. Checking on these sites will normally lead people in the right direction especially if many of them have spoken highly concerning one or even a few of the more reliable online vendors. Also, if a vendor has been in business for a long time, this vendor is most likely trustworthy and reliable. If they’re not, they wouldn’t be in business for such a long time.
